THE FEDERAL KINGDOM OF ARDENIA – OVERVIEW

The Federal Kingdom of Ardenia is a loose federation of 38 provinces, innumerable independent cities and overseas holdings unified under a single executive branch, court system and nobility. With over 679 million people, 20% of which are immigrants, the Federal Kingdom is the second-most populous country in the world, only followed by the Socialist Republic of Weltkria.

The Federal Kingdom operates on a system of free market, capital exchange (capitalism). The independently managed Ardenian Sovereign Wealth Fund is the 4th biggest hedgefund in the world, with holdings exceeding over 120 billion FGBN. Government rarely makes forays into the economy, with the exclusion of the Central Monetary Board and in the cases of strategically important industries.

The Economy of the Federal Kingdom is the largest economy in the world, with the current FGBN-GDP estimated at 120tn. This unusually strong economy is driven by well developed orbital industry, a extremely strong service sector, the widespread utilization of autorefineries, automated industry, and foreign trade. Ardenia exports high-technology refined goods such as semiconductors, smart weapons, and computers, with these exports taking up over 10% of total GDP.

Ardenia is a nation where the high-speed train drops you off at a space elevator while a gaggle of protesters sit outside. Where you are ushered by a autocar to a drab office building where you keep track of the nightmarish state of orbital logistics. Where a short visit to the local hospital and a little snip can get your cancer cured with tiny nanobots.

And, where, if you take that sleek space elevator up into the stars, you are greeted by countless orbital refineries, orbital infrastructure, and solar grids blotting out the sun.

Of course, Ardenia isn’t perfect. Elections are bloodbaths. Mecari is on fire, as usual. Healthcare, as always, is messy. Old tensions come to light every summer as cities burn, Federal Guardsmen called in to control riot after riot with the distant wafts of tear gas. It is the place where the lives of honorable men and women are thrown at the wayside for geopolitical hogwash. Where a homeless vet sits in front of a gleaming space elevator. Where a corporate lobbyist can discard the votes of millions of people. A place where voices are robbed not by boot, but by district boundaries shaped like a boot.

But for over 600 million people, it is home.

And they will be damned if they let it fall.

The Northern Lights Treaty Alliance is a hyper-interventionist accord of twelve nations, all nominally democracies, built to counter Weltkrian influence and the growing influence of autocratic, illiberal powers throughout the world. They are the enforcers of International Trade. They are the policemen of the world.

Their mettle was tested – once. A Naceni “rogue” nuke detonated in the heart of Strusrith, carving a bloody gash into what was once a prospering capital.

The forces of liberty responded.

At first, it was the men and women of Ardenia. Members of the Strusrith Federal Guard. Rescuejumpers from the local AFB. Helicopter pilots of the 37th Airborne Battalion. Innumerable firemen and firewomen, first responders rushing towards certain doom.

Then it was the NLTA.

In 72 hours, Northern Light Forces had completely discombobulated or rendered combat ineffective over 75% of the Nacenian Military.

In 96 hours, Northern Light paramobile regiments were making orbital drops onto the heartland of Nacen itself, clearing landing-zones with nuclear warheads and orbital support.

In 120 hours, in the span of a mere week, the Northern Lights had toppled a dictatorship which made even the Weltkrians blush, the supposed “third” major power.

As the world continues to grow more tense and as the Weltkrians continue to posture, only time will tell how badly the situation will fall apart.

But, one thing is clear.

They have been stepped on before. They dragged themselves out of the darkness of autocracy into the light of freedom and liberty.

And they will drag the rest of the world along, as well.
